Sports recovery products include protein foods and drinks, carbohydrate formulas, electrolytes and convenient post-workout snacks. Their purpose is to help replenish fluids and nutrients used during exercise, but requirements differ between a short recreational session and prolonged or intensive training.
Recovery begins with adequate food, fluids, sleep and sensible training progression. Protein provides essential amino acids needed for muscle repair, but consuming more than recommended amounts does not automatically improve results. Severe pain, marked swelling, loss of movement, dark urine or symptoms that continue after rest should not be managed only with recovery products.
