Sports Recovery Supplements
Sports recovery supplements may include protein powders, creatine, branched-chain amino acids, glutamine, electrolyte formulas and tart-cherry products. They are sold as powders, capsules, ready-to-drink products and bars, but the evidence and suitable serving amounts differ considerably between ingredients.
Adequate dietary protein can support recovery, while evidence that additional branched-chain amino acids or glutamine provide meaningful benefits beyond sufficient protein is limited. Creatine is more strongly supported for repeated high-intensity training than for general soreness. Check caffeine, sugar, allergens and the full ingredient list, and choose independently tested products when banned-substance exposure is a concern.
