Sanitary Pads

Sanitary pads are external period products with an absorbent layer and an adhesive side that attaches to underwear. They are available in different lengths, thicknesses and absorbency levels, including ultra-thin, maxi, winged, overnight and reusable washable options. The appropriate type depends on whether menstrual flow is light, regular or heavy and whether the pad is needed during the day or overnight. Choose the lowest absorbency that comfortably manages the current flow and change the pad whenever it becomes full, damp or uncomfortable. Wash or sanitise the hands before and after changing it, wrap disposable pads before placing them in a bin and do not flush them. Periods that become unusually heavy, prolonged, painful or significantly different from the normal pattern should be discussed with a healthcare professional.
