Turmeric Supplements

Turmeric supplements are available as capsules, tablets, gummies, powders and liquid preparations. Some provide whole turmeric, while others contain concentrated curcumin or curcuminoid extracts. Certain formulas add black pepper extract or piperine to increase absorption, but strengths and formulations differ substantially between products. Compare the amount of turmeric or curcuminoids per serving, extract standardisation, serving size and added ingredients. Research has not established definitive benefits for every promoted use, and some formulas can cause digestive discomfort; liver injury has also been reported with certain highly absorbable products. Seek professional advice before use during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with liver concerns, or when taking regular medication because herbal supplements can interact with medicines.
